If you do choose the slideshow function, there are several transitions you can apply such as Zoom In and Zoom Out, light effects and some rotation options. The useful bit is that this can all be performed in "batch" processing mode so you can process, resize and label as many images as you want at once. After resizing however, the program does allow you to rotate photos, add text to them and even make a slideshow in movie format. Instead of enhancing and adjusting pictures individually, BatchPhoto lets you select a group of pictures, define a series of edits, and apply them in a single operation. This makes it very limited on the one hand but also extremely quick on the other. BatchPhoto is a powerful photo manipulation program that makes it easy to touch-up, annotate, transform, apply effects, and rename hundreds of photos in a single operation. All you have to is drag and drop your photos into the application window (as many as you want), change the size and click "Start" - there's not much too it beyond that. Imgares is a batch photo editor that allows you to reduce both size and e-mail or upload transfer times. Sometimes, if you're in a hurry, you just want to get your photos sent off without worrying about whether it's going to attach or not. Here comes the 4 best batch photo editors with batch processing capabilities to save your time. High resolution photos from modern digital cameras are often too large to send by e-mail, or at least, take a long time to upload. Batch photo editor is a dispensable tool when you need to apply equal adjustments to a number of images simultaneously. ![]() Softonic review Retouch and resize your photos in a click

![]() ![]() I will have forgotten some cards, those cards will be shown to me frequently. It is what it is - at least I know all my progress wont be gone when I finally do return to those flashcards. I haven't review them for about 6 months. I made some flashcards in a space repetition program. I have some math concepts I'd like to have memorized. No matter how you use or abuse space repetition algorithms they ensure your study time is well spent (assuming flashcards are the right thing to be studying at all). You are still focused on cards you are least likely to have permanently learned. So what? The algorithm still achieves its purpose. Maybe you only review a few of those hundreds of cards that are due. The best way to deal with having hundreds of cards to review after a break is to shrug your shoulders and say "who cares". I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up doubling the number of books I’m reading at once, which would bring the average to around 1/month. Most of the books I’ve imported are 300-400 cards, so it’ll take about a year to work through each of them. The reviews give me an opportunity to spot details that seemed unimportant on a first reading but that foreshadow something that happens later.īeyond that, it’s driven by Anki’s normal scheduling algorithm these are subdecks of my general-review deck, so Anki will autumatically mix the new cards and reviews with any other reviews I have due. I import each book into its own deck set to show 1 new card per day (in the order added)- I want whatever mental connections are necessary to understand the next passage to end up in long-term rather than short-term memory. Successive cards contain some duplicated lines (5) to provide a sense of continuity between the cards, which are presented in a disjoint manner. I settled on 25 lines of text per card with one omitted word about 2/3 through the passage. In theory, as you become more familiar with the book’s style and subject matter, you should be able to pass the first review of an unseen passage most of the time. ![]() Instead of a knowledge quiz, which is how clozes are usually treated in the SRS world, this is an automated reading comprehension test- Just the thing for capturing the intangible benefits of reading literature. The original paper on cloze deletion uses them as a readability measure: Readers are given an unfamiliar text with blanks and are asked to guess the omitted words the percentage correct is then a measure of the text’s quality rather than the reader’s knowledge. This idea was actually born to combat review starvation: I haven’t been very active at adding new cards lately, and there was a risk that my daily review count would hit 0 for long enough that I’d stop checking regularly- I needed a source for lots of interesting but low-priority cards to keep the pump primed. I’m happy to ramble on about it here for a bit, though. This is still in the experimental phase, and I want to wait on a full writeup until it’s had sufficient time to prove itself and get the kinks worked out. Also, I think the "deadline" for when to review in spaced repetition isn't exactly accurate to the day or hour that something is due, so there's a little bit of malleability there, and I think that's okay. ![]() If you aim for perfection, you end up not meeting your high standards and may end up quitting. I think for me, it's more important when learning to aim for the long-term commitment to it than to be perfect each day in your studies. If you miss a few days, the cards still remain overdue, but when you return it doesn't feel bad. It's funny because I originally thought telling you how many were due each day would be a great motivator (at least for me), but I'm finding I actually don't care. When you do a lesson, it picks up the overdue cards first, but if there aren't any, it pulls in new cards instead. I later wrote my own flashcard app with spaced repetition and ended up hiding the details of what was overdue and instead just let you set up a daily goal of number of cards reviewed. I missed a few days and when I returned there was a pile of cards that needed review. I found that issue too when I tried Anki. ![]() No matter how long you’ve been grieving, you can’t be blind to common sense. While the Albrights are collectively happy to see their “daughter,” she has a full-on accent and doesn’t remember simple memories as she should. Writers David Coggeshall, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and Alex Mace are incredibly aware of this premise’s campiness. The sudden re-appearance of their daughter gives the family a sudden spark. Their son Gunnar (Matthew Finlan) is taking everything into stride - fencing and partying with friends. Allen (Rossif Sutherland) has lost his muster to be an artist while his wife Tricia (Julia Stiles) is trying to keep the family somewhat together. However, with the loss of their daughter, things have changed. The Albrights seem to have a beautiful house, lots of money, and many charitable events to entertain. From there, Leena hatches a bloody plot to impersonate a missing girl named Esther to infiltrate an affluent, wealthy American family. A long-time doctor inside the Saarne Institute informs a new teacher of Leena’s troubled history and penchant for using her condition to her advantage. At the beginning of First Kill, the setting serves as a primer for those unfamiliar with Leena’s character or who have forgotten the first film. The age difference is noticeable at points however, the film tries cleverly to account for the obvious. Director William Brent Bell and cinematographer Karim Hussain use plenty of camera techniques to film Fuhrman from a lower point of view or behind with two body doubles. Given Hollywood’s current infatuation with prequels, re-quels, and all the above, Orphan: First Kill‘s premise had its work cut out for it.įor one, lead actress Isabelle Fuhrman is much older now, so the suspension of disbelief factor will be harder to pull off. As horrifying a prospect, it’s a twist on the “bad kid” motifs shown in 1993’s The Good Son and makes for some crazy situations. With Ester, however, there was more than meets the eye - a hormonal disorder has a 33-year-old Estonian woman named Leena Klammer encased in a child’s body. If there is any availability, it’s generally in the skid row area,” he said. “There is virtually nothing available on the Westside, there is virtually nothing available in the Valley, each and every night. ![]() The city has an alarming lack of shelters for the street population, Szabo said. “The only way to reduce encampments is to provide alternatives,” he said. “We have trouble getting community support for 100-unit apartment buildings, so I can’t imagine them supporting camps that size,” Waldman said.Ĭouncilman Mike Bonin said the mayor’s proposal marks a “significant financial investment” to get people off the street, and a shift in city strategy. Stuart Waldman, president of the business group Valley Industry and Commerce Assn., praised the mayor’s homelessness goals but questioned whether neighborhoods would support the plan. The Homeless Outreach and Proactive Engagement teams, led by the LAPD, offer shelter and services to camp residents. Under the mayor’s proposal, neighborhoods that accept shelters would get extra sanitation crews and HOPE teams. Officials say the sweeps are necessary to protect against diseases, including hepatitis A, and to keep public walkways clear. The encampment cleanups are controversial, with homeless people complaining that their belongings have been taken away. “We won’t allow for reencampment in those targeted areas.” Szabo said the city will try to prevent street encampments from forming again in communities that agree to host the new shelters. The trailers are scheduled to open this summer and hold beds, toilets, showers, and mental health services. The shelter program is modeled after Garcetti’s planned trailer compound on a city-owned parking lot near Olvera Street. Separately, the city has set a goal of building 222 new permanent supportive housing units in each council district. Homeless-service providers are more successful placing people in shelters in areas where they already live, he said. The goal is to shelter up to 100 people in each district, either at one location or several sites. The city is still discussing the plan with the county, which would help oversee services at the shelters, Szabo said. A program to clean encampments had nearly 6,000 pending requests through early February.Ĭity Council members will debate Garcetti’s shelter proposal in the coming weeks. There is also mounting frustration with the tents and tarps that dot the city sidewalks, freeway underpasses and alleyways. ![]() The city and the county are beginning to spend the voter-approved funds on new homeless housing and services, but there is growing urgency to help the city’s unsheltered population, which stands at 25,237, according to the latest count. ![]() Garcetti, who was in Iowa over the weekend as he considers a presidential run, wants to end street homelessness by 2028 and halve the unsheltered population in next five years. “Everybody has to be part of the solution.” “We have no intention to force projects on any district or in any location, but we are confident that there is sufficient consensus that we need these projects,” Szabo said. To smooth the way for the shelters, the mayor plans to sign an emergency shelter declaration Tuesday that would loosen zoning rules, allowing for quick construction, Garcetti’s deputy chief of staff Matt Szabo said Friday. If a City Council member doesn’t commit the money by January, the funds would go back into a pool that other City Council members can use to pay for shelters. |
